Of all the reasons people come to crystals, sleep is the most common. The bedroom is where a stone gets the most quiet attention, and a small ritual before bed is easy to keep.
Amethyst
The classic bedside stone. Its name comes from the Greek amethystos, "not intoxicated", and it was long thought to keep the mind clear and dreams calm. Place a tumbled stone or small cluster on the bedside table, or under the pillow if you like something to hold.
Lepidolite
A lilac, glittering mica that naturally contains lithium. It is the stone people reach for when worry keeps them up. Hold it for a minute while breathing slowly before you turn the light out.
Selenite
Named for Selene, goddess of the moon, selenite is used to calm a room rather than a person. A selenite tower or bowl on a windowsill softens the light and is said to cleanse the other stones placed on it.
Moonstone
For those whose sleep follows the moon, moonstone is the traditional companion to the lunar cycle. Many keep one by the bed through the waning moon, when the urge is to rest and release.
A simple sleep ritual
Dim the lights an hour before bed. Burn a lavender incense stick or add a drop of lavender oil to a burner. Make a cup of chamomile. Hold your stone, take five slow breaths and set it down by the bed. Keep it the same each night: the repetition is the ritual.
