Reed diffusers

Reed diffusers give a room a gentle, constant scent without flame or fuss. Browse reed diffusers from Rhubarb Rhubarb to Cinnamon & Clove, plus natural diffuser flowers and black fibre reeds, ready to scent your home.

How do reed diffusers work?

A reed diffuser is a bottle of scented oil with thin reeds standing in it. The oil travels up the reeds and releases its fragrance into the air, so there is no flame, no plug and nothing to light. It suits bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms and offices where a candle is not practical.

How to choose a reed diffuser

Start with the scent. Fresh, outdoorsy blends such as Seasalt and Moss suit bathrooms and kitchens, while warm notes like Heavenly Musk or Cinnamon & Clove feel cosy in a living room. Floral choices such as On Jasmine Wings work well in bedrooms.

Then think about size. A 120ml or 140ml bottle is ideal for a small room, and the 200ml size gives a longer-lasting scent for a larger space. Place it away from direct sun and radiators, on a surface where it will not be knocked.

Natural diffuser flowers and extra reeds

If you prefer something prettier than straight reeds, our natural diffuser flowers on string or on a reed, in lily, lotus, rose, carnation and poppy shapes, sit in the bottle and carry scent in the same way. A fibre black reed diffuser set is a neat, modern alternative. Turn the reeds every week or so to refresh the scent.

A boxed diffuser is an easy housewarming present, and pairs nicely with scented candles or a pretty room spray in the same fragrance. For a different way to scent a room, explore our oil burners.

Questions and answers

How long does a reed diffuser last?

It depends on the size of the bottle, the room and the airflow. A 120ml or 140ml diffuser typically lasts a few months in a small room. Flipping the reeds now and then refreshes the scent, and fewer reeds will make it last longer.

How many reeds should I use?

Most people start with all the reeds supplied. More reeds give a stronger scent, and fewer give a softer one that lasts longer. In a small room or a bedroom, you may prefer to begin with about half and add more if you want it stronger.

Are reed diffusers safe around pets and children?

They have no flame, but the oil should be kept out of reach and away from furniture, as it can mark surfaces. Place the bottle somewhere stable and high, and keep it away from curious pets and children.
