What are crystals used for?
People have collected and carried stones for thousands of years. Today, many use crystals as keepsakes, as altar pieces, in meditation, or simply as beautiful objects for the home. In crystal folklore, each stone is traditionally associated with a quality: amethyst with calm, rose quartz with love and self-kindness, and black obsidian with protection.
How to choose your first crystal
Start with what you are drawn to. A tumble stone is the easiest beginning, small enough for a pocket or a bag. If you want a display piece, consider a calcite geode, an amethyst cluster or a crystal sphere on its stand. Points, towers and obelisks stand upright on shelves and desks. Chakra sets and Chakra Hearts offer a stone for each of the seven energy centres.
Look at the finish and size too. Polished stones are smooth to hold, while raw pieces, like Himalayan quartz, have a wilder look. Check the measurements, since a 40mm sphere is very different from a 90mm pyramid.
Caring for your crystals
Many people like to cleanse their crystals on a regular basis, with moonlight, smoke or sound. Keep softer stones such as selenite and calcite away from water and direct sun.

Questions and answers
Which crystal should I start with?
Many beginners start with clear quartz, amethyst or rose quartz, as they are widely loved and easy to find. Choose the stone you are drawn to, and look up its traditional meaning to see whether it feels right.
How do I cleanse my crystals?
Popular methods include leaving them in moonlight, passing them through smoke from a smudge stick or incense, or sounding a bowl nearby. Some stones are damaged by water or sun, so check each type first.
Are your crystals real?
Our crystals are natural stones and gemstones, so each piece varies in colour, pattern and size. Sizes and finishes are given on each product page. Some pieces, like orgonite, are crafted from stones set in resin.
