108 Bead Mala – 9 Planet Astro
About this piece
A mala of 108 beads in nine different stones: red jasper, white, green and yellow aventurine, amethyst, crystal quartz, black agate, rose quartz and golden quartz. The colours tumble along the string like a handful of sweets, from deep brick red to blush pink and clear white.
Malas are used in Hindu and Buddhist practice to keep count while reciting a mantra, a practice known as japa. With so many stones on one strand, this is the mala for anyone who cannot choose a favourite. It makes a generous gift for a yoga teacher, a seeker, or a friend beginning a new chapter.
Rest it in your right hand, draped over the middle finger, and move one bead at a time with your thumb as you breathe or repeat a word that matters to you. Tradition keeps the index finger out of it, as it stands for the ego.
