Benzoin Resin – 50g

Benzoin comes as small, pale-to-amber nuggets that crackle and soften on a hot charcoal disc. The smoke is sweet and balsamic, with a creamy, vanilla-like depth, and it fills a room slowly and kindly.

Benzoin has been burned as incense for centuries, and is often blended into other resins to round out their fragrance. It is a warm, comforting choice for cold evenings, and a lovely present for a friend who enjoys sweeter, softer scents.

Light a charcoal disc with tongs and place it in a burner. When it turns grey at the edges, add a few small pieces of resin, perhaps over a layer of sand to absorb the heat. Keep it on a heat-resistant surface and never leave burning charcoal unattended.
