Silky, earthy and wonderfully soft, ghassoul clay turns into a smooth, chocolate-brown paste that leaves skin feeling clean, matt and refreshed. It has been part of Moroccan bathing rituals for centuries and is still a hammam favourite today.
Also known as rhassoul, this clay comes from a single region of north-west Morocco near Fez, where it is mined by hand underground. It is naturally rich in minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium, and is a favourite for normal to oily skin and for cleansing oily hair. It is a lovely gift for a skincare lover or anyone who enjoys a spa-style ritual at home.
Mix two teaspoons of clay with an equal amount of water or floral water to form a smooth paste. Apply to the face, body or hair and leave for around fifteen minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Patch test first and avoid the eyes.
