Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, and it is easy to see why: the milky crystal fibres catch and soften the light with a lunar glow. Many people use a selenite bowl to rest their other crystals and jewellery, as a calm, moon-touched place to set things down. It makes a lovely gift for a crystal collector, a new home or anyone who likes pretty things within reach.
At 15cm it is roomy enough for a whole collection of tumble stones, rings and small crystals. Place it on an altar, dresser or windowsill, and rest your favourite stones or a few rings in it each evening. Selenite is soft and dissolves in water, so keep it dry and dust it gently with a cloth.
