The small Teak Pestle & Mortar is a neat, handy size for grinding a pinch of spice, a few herbs or a little resin for incense. Its smooth, warm teak grain makes it as lovely to display on a shelf or altar as it is to use.
Teak, Tectona grandis, contains a natural oil that helps make the wood water resistant and protects it from decay, and Javanese teak is considered among the finest in the world. Each set is lovingly made in Balinese villages from carefully managed teak reserves, and with a little care it can last a lifetime. A beautiful gift for a cook, a herbalist or a kitchen witch.
Use it to grind herbs and spices for cooking, crush dried flowers and resins for incense, or blend herbs for spell jars and sachets. Wash by hand in warm water, dry thoroughly and rub with a little food-safe oil now and then to keep the wood looking rich.
