Guohua Picture Stone – Landscape, 140x80mm
About this piece
A natural landscape painting in stone: this Guohua picture stone, about 140 x 80mm, is patterned with tree-like forms that look remarkably like a traditional Chinese ink landscape. Hills, forests and mist seem to rise from the pale limestone.
From Guangxi Province in China, these stones are fine-grained limestone rich in iron oxide, through which manganese dendrites have branched over millions of years. Their resemblance to classical landscape art gives each piece a real sense of history. It makes a perfect gift for a nature lover, an art enthusiast or someone who appreciates quiet, contemplative objects.
Display it on a shelf, desk or small stand, somewhere you can pause and look into its scene. Let it be a small window onto calm in a busy room. Each stone is one of a kind and will vary in pattern.
