The name comes from the Tamil pachchai ilai, meaning green leaf. In the East, patchouli was tucked between linen and clothes to scent them and keep insects away, and it is said that Indian cashmere shawls arrived in Victorian England smelling of it. It is traditionally associated with balance, romance and abundance in folk magic. A lovely gift for anyone with a bohemian heart.
