Tarot Birth Card Calculator
Enter your date of birth to find your tarot birth cards, the Major Arcana cards said to describe the themes you carry through life.
How your tarot birth card is calculated
This is the method made popular by the tarot author Mary K. Greer. Add your day, month and full year of birth together, then add the digits of that total. If you reach 22 or more, add the digits again.
For example, someone born on 14 March 1988 adds 14 + 3 + 1988 = 2005, then 2 + 0 + 0 + 5 = 7. Their birth card is The Chariot. Someone whose total reduces to a number from 10 to 21 has a pair: 15 gives The Devil, and 1 + 5 gives The Lovers.
The birth card pairs
- Wheel of Fortune and The Magician
- Justice and The High Priestess
- The Hanged Man and The Empress
- Death and The Emperor
- Temperance and The Hierophant
- The Devil and The Lovers
- The Tower and The Chariot
- The Star and Strength
- The Moon and The Hermit
- The Sun and Wheel of Fortune and The Magician
- Judgement and The High Priestess
- The World and The Empress
- The Fool and The Emperor (a total of 22)

Tarot birth cards: questions and answers
What is a tarot birth card?
Your tarot birth cards are one, two or occasionally three Major Arcana cards calculated from your date of birth. They are said to describe lifelong themes, strengths and lessons, a little like a star sign in tarot form.
How is my tarot birth card calculated?
Add your day, month and full year of birth together, then add the digits of the total. If the result is 22 or more, add its digits again. If it is 10 to 21, the digits added together give your second card.
Why do I have two birth cards?
Most people have a pair, such as The Star and The Emperor. The higher card is often read as your outer personality and the lower one as your inner soul. Those born with a total of 19 have three cards.
Can two people have the same birth cards?
Yes. There are only a few possible pairs, so many people share them. Your birth cards are a starting point for reflection rather than a fixed description of who you are.
