Candle holders

Candle holders and stands to light your home safely and beautifully. Browse Buddha holders, mango wood stands, iron votive centrepieces and decorative signs, in a range of sizes to suit a shelf, a table or an altar.

How to choose a candle holder

First decide which candle you will be using, because holders are shaped for different types. A tealight cup, a votive holder, a pillar stand and a taper holder are not interchangeable, so check the diameter and the type before you buy.

Then think about where it will sit. A heavier base is steadier on a busy table, while a delicate openwork design looks lovely on a windowsill where the light can shine through.

Which style suits my home?

Natural materials suit a calm, earthy room. Our Mango Wood Candle Stands with a hamsa design come in small and large sizes, and the Classic Candle Stands in a whitewash finish come in three sizes, from Small to Large. For something more ornate, the Large Candle Stand in white gold or the Centrepiece Iron Votive Holder gives a dramatic table display.

The Buddha Candle Holders in red and white, and the Candle Holder Signs reading Home, Love, Peace or Welcome, work well as gifts.

Using holders for rituals

If you light candles for ritual or reflection, a stable holder matters even more. Pair one with our ritual and spell candles for an altar, or choose a small votive from our pillar, dinner and tealight candles.

Always place holders on a flat, heatproof surface and keep flames away from anything flammable. You can also see our full range of candles and wax melts.

Questions and answers

What size candle holder do I need?

Check the diameter of the candle you plan to use, then choose a holder with a cup or plate slightly larger. Tealights, votives and pillars all differ in width, so measure if you can. Larger candles generally need a heavier, wider base.

Can I use any holder with any candle?

Not always. Tealight holders are designed for small cups of wax, while pillar stands need a flat plate and taper holders need a narrow socket. Using the wrong size can leave a candle unstable, so match the holder to the candle.

Are wooden candle stands safe?

Wooden stands are fine when used with a suitable candle in a glass or metal cup, or on a heatproof plate. Never place a naked flame directly on timber, and keep candles well away from the edges and anything flammable.

Do candle holders make good gifts?

Yes, they are a thoughtful gift, especially when paired with a candle in a favourite scent. Signs reading Home, Love or Welcome suit housewarmings, while a Buddha holder or mango wood stand suits someone who loves a calm, natural interior.
