How to choose an incense holder

First, think about the type of incense you burn. Stick holders have a hole or groove for the stick and a plate to catch ash. Cone holders have a flat dish, and resin burners need a heatproof bowl. Some designs work for several types, so read the description before you buy.

Which style suits my space?

Our collection ranges from simple to ornate. The Brass Tibetan burners, including Six Symbols Standing Pot and Small Lotus, and the Brass Verdigris Tibetan Cone & Incense Holder with Eight Symbols, have a handcrafted, aged-metal feel. Buddha, Dancing Ganesha and Elephant holders add figures and symbolism, while the 7 Chakra Tower Buddha holder is a striking piece.

Censers with wooden handles, in Cross and Pentagram designs, suit ceremonial use, because the handle keeps your hands away from the heat. If you love the waterfall effect, explore backflow burners as well.

Using and cleaning holders

Place your holder on a flat, heatproof surface, away from anything flammable. A layer of sand or ash in the dish helps keep sticks upright and catches embers. Empty ash only when it is cold, and wipe the holder with a dry cloth.

Pair your holder with incense sticks or incense cones, or take a look at our full incense range. A good holder is a lovely gift for a friend who enjoys incense.

Questions and answers

Can I use any holder with any incense?

Not quite. Stick holders suit sticks, cone holders suit cones, and resin needs a heatproof bowl with charcoal. Many designs are versatile, so check the description. A small bed of sand or ash in the dish makes most holders more adaptable.

How do I stop incense ash making a mess?

Choose a holder with a wide ash catcher or dish, and place it on a mat or tray. Empty ash only once it is completely cold. A shallow layer of sand in the dish also helps to absorb stray embers.

What is a censer?

A censer is a vessel designed to hold burning incense, often with a lid or handle. Traditionally used in religious and ceremonial settings, it allows you to carry the incense safely. Our censers have wooden handles that stay cool.

Are brass incense burners safe to use?

Yes, brass is a durable, heat-tolerant metal, but it will become hot, so never touch it while incense is burning. Use it on a heatproof surface, away from children and pets, and let it cool completely before moving it.
