Crystal balls & scrying
Crystal balls on stands for scrying, display and quiet contemplation. Choose a crystal ball from 40mm up to 200mm, each on its own stand, for your altar, desk or shelf, and gaze softly into it.
What is a crystal ball used for?
A crystal ball is traditionally used for scrying, the old practice of gazing softly into a clear surface to let images or impressions arise. Many people today use one as a focus for meditation or reflection, or simply as a beautiful object that catches the light on a shelf.
How to choose a crystal ball size
Our Crystal Balls on Stand come in sizes from 40mm, 50mm, 60mm and 80mm to 100mm, 110mm, 130mm, 150mm and 200mm. Smaller balls suit a desk, a bedside table or a small altar, while larger ones make a striking centrepiece. Remember that larger balls are heavier, so set them on a stable surface.
How to scry with a crystal ball
Choose a quiet, softly lit room, and place the ball on its stand against a dark cloth. Sit comfortably, relax your gaze, and let your eyes rest on the surface without straining. Start with a few minutes at a time. Keeping a notebook nearby helps you record impressions.
Avoid placing a crystal ball in direct sunlight, because glass and crystal can focus light and cause a fire risk. Dust it with a soft cloth.
Pair it with a candle from our ritual candles, or build a wider practice with altar and witchcraft tools and tarot decks.
Questions and answers
What is scrying?
Scrying is the traditional practice of gazing into a reflective or clear surface, such as a crystal ball, a mirror or water, to let images or thoughts arise. It has a long history in folk magic, and many people now use it as a form of meditation.
Which size crystal ball should I buy?
Smaller balls of 40 to 60mm are easy to hold and suit a small space, while 80 to 110mm balls are a comfortable size for display or scrying. Larger balls look dramatic but are heavy, so make sure you have a stable shelf.
Can I leave a crystal ball in the sun?
It is best not to. A glass or crystal sphere can focus sunlight and, in rare cases, create enough heat to start a fire or mark a surface. Keep your ball away from windows where sunlight reaches it directly.
How do I clean a crystal ball?
Wipe the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth. For fingerprints, use a slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid harsh cleaners. Handle it with clean hands and store it on its stand or in a soft cloth.
