How to ask the crystal ball
Find a quiet moment, take a slow breath and let your real question rise to the surface. It might be about love, work, a decision you are weighing up or simply what you need to know today. Type it into the box beneath the ball and press Ask the crystal ball. The mists will stir and gather, an image will form in the glass, and a short message will appear for you to reflect on.
The crystal ball works best as a mirror. Take what speaks to you, notice what you hope it will say, and let it help you see your question in a new light. It is free to use as often as you like, with no sign-up and no email.
What is crystal gazing?
Crystal gazing, also called scrying or crystallomancy, is one of the oldest forms of divination. Seers have gazed into polished stones, dark mirrors and still water for thousands of years, letting the mind grow quiet until images and insights begin to surface. In Tudor England, the scholar John Dee famously used a polished black "shew stone" in his work, and by the Victorian era the crystal ball had become the classic image of the fortune teller at the fair.
Today most people use a crystal ball for meditation and reflection rather than prediction. The smooth, endless surface gives the eyes somewhere to rest, which helps the busy mind to settle.
How to scry with your own crystal ball
- Sit somewhere quiet in soft, low light, with a candle beside or behind you.
- Place your crystal ball on its stand on a dark cloth, so there are few reflections.
- Breathe slowly and hold your question lightly in mind.
- Relax your eyes and gaze into the ball rather than at its surface.
- Notice any shapes, colours, memories or feelings that come, without judging them.
- Write down what you saw. Meanings often become clearer later.
Start with five to ten minutes. Like any practice, scrying grows easier the more often you return to it. You will find glass crystal balls with stands above, and gemstone spheres such as amethyst, rose quartz and clear quartz among our crystal spheres.

Crystal ball reading: questions and answers
Is the crystal ball reading free?
Yes, completely. There is no charge, no sign-up, no email and no account. Type your question, ask the ball and your answer appears in a few seconds. You can ask as many questions as you like, within a sensible limit each hour.
How do I ask the crystal ball a question?
Take a breath, think about what is really on your mind and type it into the box beneath the ball. Questions that begin with "what", "how" or "should I" usually bring the most useful answers, but yes or no questions work too. Then press Ask the crystal ball and watch the mists.
Can a crystal ball predict the future?
We see the crystal ball as a tool for reflection, not fortune telling. Its answers are images and gentle suggestions to help you look at your question from a new angle. It will never predict illness, accidents, dates or what another person will do, and it is not a substitute for advice from a doctor, solicitor or financial adviser.
Who writes the answers?
Each answer is written by AI in the voice of an old seer, guided by your question and by the traditions of scrying. We do not save your question or your answer.
What is scrying?
Scrying is the old practice of gazing into a reflective or translucent surface, such as a crystal ball, a dark mirror or a bowl of still water, to quieten the mind and let images and insights arise. Crystal gazing, or crystallomancy, is the best known form.
How do I scry with my own crystal ball?
Sit somewhere quiet in soft light, with a candle behind or beside you rather than in front. Rest the ball on its stand on a dark cloth, relax your eyes and gaze into it rather than at it. Hold your question lightly and notice any shapes, colours or feelings that come. Five to ten minutes is plenty to begin with, and it gets easier with practice.
How do I cleanse a crystal ball?
Wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth and, if you like, pass it through incense smoke or leave it in moonlight overnight. Keep glass and clear quartz balls out of direct sunlight, as a sphere can focus the light like a magnifying glass and scorch nearby surfaces.
What size crystal ball should I choose?
For scrying, most people find a ball of 80 to 110mm comfortable to gaze into. Smaller balls of 40 to 60mm are lovely on an altar, in a pocket or as a gift, and larger balls make a striking centrepiece.
