What is a love ritual?
A love ritual is a small, intentional act that turns your attention to love: to yourself, to a partner, or to the love you hope to welcome into your life. People have done this for centuries. In old British custom, girls tucked bay leaves under their pillow on St Valentine's Eve, and roses, rose quartz and pink candles have been tied to love for generations.
The most powerful love ritual begins with you. Self-love rituals help you slow down, notice your own worth and open your heart, so that love can find you more easily, or grow where it already is.
Our one rule
Love rituals are for your own heart: self-love, openness, attracting love in general and strengthening a relationship you are already in. We never offer rituals to make a particular person love you, or to change anyone else's feelings or free will. That is the way Rowan Hart has always practised, and it is the kindest way.
Timing your love ritual
Friday is the traditional day for love, as it belongs to Venus. A waxing moon, as the moon grows towards full, is used for drawing love in, and the full moon for celebrating it. Valentine's Day, Beltane on 1 May and Midsummer are all traditional love festivals.
A simple self-love candle ritual
- Choose a Friday evening, ideally while the moon is waxing. Run a warm bath or tidy a small space to sit.
- Place a pink candle in a safe holder with a rose quartz beside it, and a few rose petals or a drop of rose oil nearby.
- Light the candle and take a few slow breaths. Write three things you love about yourself on a slip of paper.
- Hold the rose quartz and read your words aloud, then say what you would like to welcome: more kindness, more joy, more love.
- Sit with the flame for a while. Snuff it out rather than blowing, keep the rose quartz by your bed, and never leave a candle burning unattended.

Love rituals: questions and answers
What colour candle is used for love?
Pink is the traditional colour for self-love, friendship and gentle romance, and red for passion and deepening a love that is already there. White can be used for any intention if you do not have a coloured candle.
How do you charge rose quartz for love?
Many people leave rose quartz on a windowsill under a full or waxing moon, then hold it while setting an intention, such as "I am open to love". Keep it by your bed or carry it with you as a reminder.
What is a self-love ritual?
A self-love ritual is a small, regular act of kindness to yourself: lighting a pink candle, taking a rose bath, or writing down what you appreciate about yourself. It sets aside time to slow down and treat yourself with the care you would give someone you love.
Can a love spell make a specific person love me?
We do not offer rituals that try to influence another person. Our love rituals are for opening your own heart, self-love, attracting love in general and nurturing a relationship you are already in.
